This level is designed for Young Explorers from 3 onwards who are developing their foundations in English literacy. Learning to read and write fluently with matured techniques is crucial for the development of language in children. The majority of parents are keen to help their young ones but are unfamiliar where and how to start. At EZY Phonics, we use our experience to carefully observe and provide an individualized rate of introduction to nurture each Explorer with an effective and fun way to learn.

  • 42 sounds for 26 letters

All words are created by stringing sounds. There are only 26 letters used in English but there are over 40 sounds to represent them. For reading and identifying words, our Starlings are taught to be fluent in saying the sounds that go with the letters.

  • Letter Formation

We introduce a multi-sensory approach to guide our Starlings to form letters more competently. Our techniques enable them to retain the ability to form the letters with ease thereafter.

  • Sight Words

We equip our Starlings with the ability to identify and read Sight Words to accelerate reading competency. Once a child internalizes this list of words, it makes reading much easier.

  • Introductory Blending

We introduce beginner blending skills at the Starlings level, so our students are able to independently articulate words that they have not been exposed to before.

  • Sensorial Experience

Our vast variety of interactive activities provide plenty of opportunities for our Starlings to master English literacy in a delightful and immersive way.

  • Sound Books & Sound Sheets

We utilise an assortment of learning materials including Sound Books and Sound Sheets, guiding our students to learn and remember each and every sound and its formation.

  • Tricky & Non-Phonetic Words

Some words in the English language are particularly difficult for students to spell and interpret. In this level of teaching, we use a variety of teaching techniques which include sensory trays and embossed cards to develop creativity, fine motor skills and cognitive development.

  • Interactive Storytelling

We guide our students to become fluent readers by helping them understand what they read. To do this, comprehension is taught aurally in the first stages of coaching. They listen to captivating stories and nursery rhymes and are then encouraged to discuss what happens in them with their own vivid imagination.

  • Flashcards

We use fun and speedy flashcards to help stimulate creative and photographic memory in our Starlings. These help them develop increased awareness of letter sounds and digraphs.

  • The Power of Melody & Movement

We've discovered over our years of teaching that music dramatically fosters learning in children. Music is an effective medium for learning and retaining information along with developing social and emotional skills.
