Our Intervention Programme

Literacy is not a natural attribute of human development, however, it is intrinsic to a high quality of life. Children do not automatically attain the ability to read and write, and they need to be taught the correct skills or they will eventually begin to struggle in all other academic areas. To read and write means to be able to keep up with current events, communicate effectively, deepen relationships and understand the dynamics that shape our everchanging world.

Ever so often, we come across children who struggle with one or more areas in their early English literacy. At the same time, we come across parents who express panic and become frenzied in an effort to close an illusory gap for their child. But pushing children in an effort to motivate them to read and write can have an undesirable rebound effect. In a desperate attempt, parents may end up using flashcards of their own, drilling the alphabetical sounds or having their child repetitively write the letters and words in an effort to learn. Although those are desired outcomes the child should possess, it can also take the joy out of literacy altogether if not done right,

At EZY Phonics, our mission is to provide a logical, structured, holistic and research-driven system to accelerate literacy capabilities in every child that joins us. We are dedicated to unravel the best in every child, with life-long skills to seamlessly engage with the everyday world. For students that come to us with veritable symptoms of literacy delay (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary)—we provide a robust and customized intervention programme following a non-intrusive formative assessment.

Most children don't fall through the cracks

For some children, it most often just takes more time to decrypt language skills and strengthen the neural linkways with language development. For such students, a different teaching style may be all that is needed before it finally becomes evident. The likelihood of your child falling through the cracks and emerging as illiterate at the end of kindergarten or early primary school is low. Almost all schools in Singapore pro-actively screen children for learning problems as early as at the Nursery level (N2), notify their parents and may suggest an intervention programme so they are able catch up.

A high proportion of parents that come to us with queries of intervention for their child, subsequently enrol their children in one of our regular literacy programmes instead and the child begins to excel through a different and more refined instruction. However, if your child genuinely requires intervention—don't fret—we're here to help. Experts agree unanimously: early intervention is crucial for catching and addressing reading, writing and speech delay in children. An important part of intervention for struggling children is the use of the right intervention techniques at the right time.

We provide a customized intervention programme—adapted from our core system but tailored to the requirements of the child. We leverage on effective literacy intervention strategies when working with our struggling Explorers. Nevertheless, it’s not only what we teach that matters; the way it is taught has a huge impact on a child's learning abilities. When the optimal intervention strategies are introduced at the right time in the right way, it can be the difference in helping your struggling young one learn to read, write and speak effectively.

Our Intervention roadmap

There are 5 overall areas in language development that contribute to an all-rounded and adept early English literacy foundation. Our Intervention Programme consists of the following strategies with the components extracted from our core programmes and tailored to what is required:

  • Phonemic Awareness

  • Phonological Awareness

  • Fluency Development

  • Comprehension Strategies

  • Vocabulary Building

Through a formative initial assessment, we will understand in which specific areas we can assist your child with. A detailed assessment will provide us with the valuable information to determine if an intervention programme is required; (1) as a supplement to enhance some attributes of the core literacy programme; (2) to impede or strengthen skills deficiency for children who are slightly beneath their grade level; (3) to be used intensively for children who are significantly beneath their attending grade level.

Skilled people are not born with their skills, if you think your child needs help—you can get in touch with us to understand what we can offer.
